Auswirkungen des U.S.-Shutdowns auf USA-Reisen

Allgemeines

• Es ist nicht absehbar, wie lange der Shutdown anhält. Bis eine Einigung erzielt wurde, arbeiten viele US-Behörden nur sehr eingeschränkt oder gar nicht.
• Bei allen folgenden Angaben ist das jeweilige Datum der Veröffentlichung mit angegeben. Wir veröffentlichen Updates, sobald wir diese erhalten.
• Bitte immer noch einmal separat überprüfen, ob sich in der Zwischenzeit weitere Änderungen ergeben haben; idealerweise auf den offiziellen Webseiten der Staaten und Attraktionen Die Website des National Park Service www.nps.gov wird während des Shutdowns voraussichtlich NICHT aktualisiert.
• State Parks sind vom Shutdown nicht betroffen.

ARIZONA (Stand: 1.10.2025)

• Grand Canyon National Park:
  Der Park bleibt derzeit für Besucher geöffnet, jedoch werden der Betrieb und die Dienstleistungen mit reduzierter Personalstärke und eingeschränktem Service angeboten. Wichtige Einrichtungen wie Toiletten, Notfalldienste und Wartungsdienste können davon betroffen sein. Bitte beachten Sie, dass der Park derzeit zwar zugänglich ist, die Dauer des weiteren Betriebs jedoch aufgrund begrenzter Ressourcen und Finanzmittel ungewiss ist. 
  Darüber hinaus sind seit heute zwei Aussichtspunkte am North Rim, Point Imperial und Cape Royal, wieder geöffnet. Diese Aussichtspunkte waren aufgrund des Bravo-Waldbrands geschlossen worden, der Anfang dieser Woche endlich zu 100 % unter Kontrolle gebracht werden konnte. Die Saison am North Rim dauert voraussichtlich bis zum 30. November. 

CALIFORNIA (Stand 1.10.2025)

• Yosemite National Park: der Park bleibt während des Shutdowns geöffnet, alle Naturwunder des Parks sind weiterhin zugänglich. Einige Dienstleistungen sind eingeschränkt, Besucher können aber mit ein wenig zusätzlicher Vorbereitung und Achtsamkeit weiterhin die Schönheit des Yosemite genießen. xAktuelle Informationen findest du HIER.

COLORADO (Stand 6.10.2025)

• Alle vier Nationalparks – Rocky Mountain, Great Sand Dunes, Black Canyon of the Gunnison und Mesa Verde – bleiben grundsätzlich geöffnet. Es kann jedoch zu Einschränkungen beim Zugang zu Visitor Centern und bei rangergeführten Programmen kommen.
• Am stärksten betroffen ist der Mesa Verde Nationalpark: Die „Cultural Sites“ sind derzeit nicht zugänglich und können nur von den Aussichtspunkten aus betrachtet werden. Die Straßen im Park sind nach aktuellem Stand geöffnet, sodass ein Besuch weiterhin möglich ist. 

FLORIDA

• Florida State Parks
  • Alle State Parks sowie von den Counties gemanagten Einrichtungen bleiben geöffnet und sind nicht vom Shutdown betorffen.
• Fort Myers - Islands, Beaches & Neighborhoods (Stand 6.10.2025)
  • The only federally managed site is the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island. 
    • The refuge remains open for visitors. 
    • Wildlife Drive is open daily in October from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (fees apply)
    • The Visitor Center is already closed for hurricane repairs and is expected to reopen mid to late November
    • Bathrooms are currently closed during the shutdown
    • Tarpon Bay Explorers, the concessionaire, is open for kayak, stand-up paddleboard, and boat rentals
    • Bailey Tract is open and always free to the public

HAWAI‘I (Stand 30.9.2025)

• Flights to the Hawaiian Islands and within the state should remain largely unaffected. 
  • Travelers may experience longer wait times. 
  • Travelers should check with their airline for the status of their flight before heading to the airport. 
  • Plan to arrive early to the airport.
• National parks and wildlife refuges. 
  • Some national parks and wildlife refuges in Hawai‘i will be closed or have limited access during the federal government shutdown.

• All state and county parks, beaches, and private businesses, including hotels, activities, attractions, tours, shops, and restaurants, will remain open

IDAHO (Stand 1.10.2025)

• Craters of the Moon National Monument and Reserve will generally remain open during the shutdown, though park facilities and services may be limited due to a lack of staff and funding.

NORTH DAKOTA (Stand 1.10.2025)

• Recreational and historic sites in North Dakota operated by the National Park Services — including Theodore Roosevelt National Park and Knife River Indian Villages — will generally remain open during the shutdown. 
• However, visitor centers will be closed.

OREGON (Stand 1.10.2025)

• Crater Lake National Park is currently open, but visitor center is closed. 

SOUTH DAKOTA (Stand 1.10.2025)

• Most of the National Park Service units in South Dakota remain accessible and as open as possible to visitors, but visitor centers and some other services within the parks are temporarily closed or discontinued. 
• Despite these temporary closures at some locations, many iconic experiences remain open and accessible:
  • Mount Rushmore National Memorial: Open daily! The memorial grounds, parking structure, and concessions (including dining and gift shops) remain open. The visitor center, ranger talks, and evening lighting ceremonies are temporarily unavailable. 
  • Badlands National Park: Open for exploration! Scenic drives, trails, and overlooks remain open to visitors. Vault toilets are available throughout the park. The Ben Reifel Visitor Center and ranger-led programs are temporarily closed. The White River Visitor Center closed for the season on 9/20/25.
  • Minuteman Missile National Historic Site: Minuteman is temporarily closed. The museum and tours are currently unavailable. Please check online for updates as they are available.
  • Wind Cave National Park: The aboveground experience at the park is open for hiking, wildlife viewing, and enjoying the unique prairie landscape. The visitor center and cave tours are unavailable.
  • Jewel Cave National Monument: The monument is temporarily closed. The visitor center and cave tours are unavailable. Please check online for updates as they are available.
  • Missouri National Recreational River: Open for exploration. The visitor center is closed.  
• South Dakota’s state parks are fully open for business! From Custer State Park and Spearfish Canyon to Sica Hollow State Park and Good Earth State Park, the state parks offer breathtaking landscapes, outdoor recreation, and unforgettable adventures.
• South Dakota has created a page on TravelSouthDakota.com and will provide further updates as warranted.

UTAH (Stand 1.10.2025)

• Alle 5 Nationalparks - Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef und Zion - bleiben geöffnet und zugänglich.
• Services sind eingeschränkt (z. B. Besucherzentren oder rangergeführte Programme).
• Zugang zu genehmigten Aktivitäten bleibt bestehen, soweit sie nicht von einem Ranger begleitet werden.
• Timed Entry für den Arches Nationalpark ist zwischenzeitlich ausgesetzt.
• State Parks in Utah sind nicht betroffen – sie sind voll besetzt und heißen Gäste ohne Einschränkungen willkommen.

WYOMING (Stand 3.10.2025)

• Wyoming’s national parks and monuments will remain open to visitors with some closed services, including visitor centers, interpretive exhibits, federally-operated buildings and ranger-led tours. 
  • This includes visitor centers and other facilities in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park, Devils Tower and Fossil Butte National Monument, Flaming Gorge and Bighorn Canyon Recreation Area. 
  • Public restrooms will be open and maintained, and emergency services are still available.
• The visitor centers at Old Faithful Visitor Education Center, Canyon Visitor Education Center and Albright Visitor Center in Yellowstone National Park are open and staffed.
• Park roads, lookouts, trails and open-air memorials will generally remain accessible to visitors. Park roads that are open will remain open if they are essential to respond to emergencies involving safety; this includes most roads that are normally maintained open at this time of year.
• Fort Laramie National Historic Site and the National Trails Interpretive Center are closed for the duration of the federal government shutdown.
